Bank Muscat Brings “Video Window” to Oman, Linking Muscat and Salalah in Real Time

Muscat, Oman — July 2026

Bank Muscat has unveiled a first-of-its-kind live video installation in the Sultanate, connecting shoppers and visitors in Muscat with their counterparts more than 1,000 kilometres away in Salalah through a continuous, real-time video link.

Inspired by the global “Portal” concept — that have connected cities such as Dublin, Vilnius, Lublin and, more recently, Manila — the installation gives people in both cities a simple but striking experience: stepping up to a screen and seeing, in real time, someone on the other side of the country going about their day, waving, or striking up an impromptu conversation.

The Muscat end of the installation has been set up at Mall of Oman, with a corresponding screen placed in Salalah at Attin Square. The two units run on a live video feed, effectively connecting the capital and the south of the country, and will remain open to the public from 22 July to 17 August 2026 — coinciding with the peak of Salalah’s Khareef tourist season, when the south of Oman draws large numbers of visitors from Muscat and beyond.

The initiative is a partnership between Bank Muscat and Mubashir Technology, reflecting the bank’s ongoing push to combine its brand presence with experiences that resonate with local communities. Video clips of the installation shared on Instagram show visitors from both cities reacting with surprise and delight as they interact with strangers across the live feed — waving, dancing, and holding up signs for the camera.

Commenting on the launch, Khalid Al Awad said the project marked the fulfilment of a long-held vision: what started as a dream of opening a digital screen portal between Muscat and Salalah had come true, with children and families on both ends connecting, waving, and sharing laughs — some in Muscat’s summer heat visibly envious of the cooler Khareef weather on the other side of the screen. He described it as the first campaign of its kind to be rolled out in the region.

The installation adds to Bank Muscat’s recent run of experiential and community-facing campaigns, following efforts such as its “Bilad Wasiea” activation during Khareef Dhofar 2025, which similarly aimed to spotlight Dhofar’s tourism appeal while reinforcing the bank’s presence across the Sultanate’s governorates.

As Oman’s largest bank by assets, with a network of more than 170 branches and 800 points of interaction nationwide, Bank Muscat has increasingly leaned on public, tech-driven activations to reinforce its “Better Everyday” brand promise — and the Muscat–Salalah video window, running throughout this year’s Khareef season, appears to be its most ambitious attempt yet to use technology to physically bridge the country’s two major population centres.

Visitors to Mall of Oman and Attin Square in Salalah are invited to stop by throughout the four-week run and experience the connection for themselves.
