Hardware & Installation FAQs

What hardware can I run Video Window on?

The minimum hardware requirements to run Video Window are:

  • CPU : Intel i5 10th gen or AMD Ryzen 5 3rd gen
  • RAM : 8 GB RAM)
  • OS : Windows 11; macOS 13 or later; Debian-based Linux
  • Network : 5 mbps

Do you need special hardware?

No special proprietary hardware is required. Video Window is designed to run on commodity hardware including standard Windows PCs, Macs, Linux machines, or compatible touchscreen smart boards.

Can I use my existing TV or monitor?

Yes, any display can be used. If you don’t have a touchscreen, a low-cost touch overlay frame can turn any non-touch screen into a touchscreen, or you can simply use a mouse to keep hardware costs low.

What hardware is required for office setup?

For office common areas:

  • Touchscreen display (65″ or 75″ recommended for life-sized feel, but any size touchscreen works)
  • PC/Mac/Linux computer meeting minimum specs
  • Any USB or default webcam, mic, and speaker ( The Logitech MeetUp and Poly P15 are recommended for quality)

Does the device need to be a touchscreen, or can any display be used?

Any display can be used. A touchscreen is recommended for the best experience, but a low-cost touch overlay frame can be added to a non-touch display, or a mouse can be used instead.

Can I use multiple cameras or inputs?

Any USB or default webcam can be used. The configuration of multiple cameras or inputs can be discussed with Video Window support for specific setups.

What if I want multiple Video Windows in the same office?

You can install multiple Video Window units in the same office and configure them within the same group. There is no limitation on the number of units. Do note that each unit requires its own device license.

Can I run Video Window on Android TV?

No, Video Window is currently not supported on Android TV.

What devices is the app available on?

The Video Window app is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.
The Remote app (for hybrid/remote workers) is a free download on iOS and Android app stores.

Can Video Window integrate with existing AV equipment?

Yes, Video Window is designed to work with standard AV equipment. Any USB camera, mic, and speaker peripherals are compatible. It can also integrate with dedicated video bars such as the Logitech MeetUp or Poly P15. For specific AV integration questions, contact Video Window.

Can it be self-installed or does it require professional setup?

Video Window is designed to be straightforward to set up. The software is installed on the device, configured via the Admin Portal, and the hardware is standard commodity equipment. Many customers self-install; Video Window and its partners can also provide support for setup if needed.

What bandwidth is needed?

The absolute minimum is 2 Mbps download / 2 Mbps upload per endpoint (usable but not best quality). The recommended minimum is 5 Mbps download / 5 Mbps upload per endpoint for a proper experience. In practice, 720p video uses around 2-3 Mbps, but headroom is recommended for spikes and Wi-Fi jitter.

Can Video Window work on low bandwidth?

Yes, Video Window can operate at 2 Mbps down/up as an absolute minimum, though quality will not be optimal. For grouped deployments with multiple units, at least 10 Mbps is recommended. A low-bandwidth mode is also available for environments such as campus networks.

What internet speed is recommended?

At least 5 Mbps download / 5 Mbps upload per Video Window endpoint is recommended for smooth, uninterrupted playback. For HD quality, 2–3 Mbps is the minimum; 5 Mbps is preferred. A wired Ethernet connection is strongly recommended over Wi-Fi.

Does Video Window support 4K quality?

Yes, 4K resolution for extra-large displays and feature walls is available on the Enterprise plan at an additional cost of $2,000 per year. Customisable video resolutions are also available on both SME and Enterprise plans.

What bandwidth and hardware are needed for different picture qualities?

720p video uses approximately 2-3 Mbps. 5 Mbps up/down is recommended for smooth HD.

4K requires the Enterprise plan and higher bandwidth; contact Video Window for specific 4K bandwidth requirements.

What size screen should I use?

65″ or 75″ is recommended for office common areas to achieve a life-sized feel.
For hybrid office flex spaces, 32–48″ screens are suggested.
For remote workers using tablets, 11″ or larger is the minimum recommended screen size.

What is the best place to position the screen?

For office common areas, the screen should be in a shared, high-traffic area such as a kitchen, common room, or corridor, places where spontaneous conversations naturally happen. For remote workers, the best placement is beside the work computer on a tablet/phone stand at eye level, so you can glance across just like looking at a colleague in a real office.

How do I find the best placement for the screen?

Place the screen in a location where people naturally gather or pass through, such as kitchens, coffee areas, corridors, or collaborative zones. The goal is to replicate the ambient awareness of a shared physical space. Video Window Customer Support can advise on optimal placement during onboarding.

Does Video Window support portrait mode displays?

Yes, Video Window works in both landscape and portrait mode. To use portrait mode, simply install the display on its side, adjust display settings to portrait, and the Video Window software automatically adapts the layout. Portrait mode is particularly suited to communal areas and “water cooler” style spaces.
