Video Window Remote User FAQs

What is Video Window Remote?

Video Window Remote is an implementation of Video Window (ideally via an iOS or Android tablet) that enables remote and hybrid users to have a view of the office and feel present and connected with their colleagues throughout the workday. It is designed to help remote users feel part of the office, equalise their status with in-office colleagues, and reduce isolation.

Why use Video Window Remote instead of Teams / Zoom / Google?

Video Window Remote provides ambient, persistent presence. It’s running in the background all day so remote users feel connected without being in back-to-back video calls. Teams/Zoom/Google are for scheduled meetings; Video Window Remote is for the in-between moments, the spontaneous chats and passive awareness of the office that make remote users feel truly part of the team.

How can Video Window be used alongside Teams / Zoom / Google?

Video Window is designed to complement tools like Teams and Zoom, not replace them. Use Video Window for persistent ambient presence and spontaneous conversations throughout the day, and use Teams/Zoom for scheduled meetings. The two work side by side.

How does Video Window maintain privacy for home users?

Remote user are always in control. The audio is off by default. The user decides when to be seen and heard, they are only “a tap away” if a colleague needs them. Privacy controls allow them to turn off their video feed at any time.

Can the screen be blurred?

Background blur features depend on device capabilities; contact [email protected] for specific details.

Can I force the camera on for a remote user?

No. Video Window is designed with user autonomy and privacy as core principles. Remote users control when they are seen and heard. The platform does not allow administrators to force cameras on.

How do I know I am not being eavesdropped on?

Video Window is designed with user privacy as a core principle. Only the user themselves can join audio by tapping the join audio button, and when audio is activated, the user has clear indications that their audio is on via on-screen icons and indicators.

Why does Video Window need to know the location of a remote user?

Location is used to set the time zone settings to adjust for localized working hour. It is not used to track the user.

Can I contact a remote user if their video is off?

Yes, you can use the Knock feature to send an audio tap to their device to get their attention, even if their video is currently off or they are not actively at the screen.

Are there notifications or status indicators (e.g. away from desk)?

Specific notification/status features are not supported.

Video Window is designed to mirror natural office behaviour. If a remote user is not in front of their screen, it is visible in the same way you would notice an empty desk in the office.

Can I leave messages for remote users?

Video Window is focused on live video presence. For asynchronous messaging, it is recommended to use existing tools such as Teams or Slack alongside Video Window.

Can I change the screen layout or buttons?

Yes,UI customisation including screen layout and button configuration is available on the Enterprise plan. Used.

Does Whiteboard work on Video Window Remote?

Yes, the Whiteboard feature is available on Video Window Remote (subject to Whiteboard being included in your subscription plan). The same transparent whiteboard experience works across office and remote devices.

Does Browser work on Video Window Remote?

Yes, the browser feature can be configured and used on Video Window Remote devices, allowing remote users to access configured web pages or dashboards.

What is the recommended setup for a remote user?

A tablet (11″ or larger) on a stand beside the work computer, at eye level, running Video Window Remote. This allows the user to glance across naturally, just like looking at a colleague in a real office, without Video Window competing with their main work computer.

What hardware is best for a remote user?

An 11″ or larger tablet (Apple or Android) with a 720p+ camera, multi-microphone array, and stereo speakers, placed on a stand at eye level beside the work computer.
Video Window Remote can also run on a PC/Mac/Linux computer, though a dedicated tablet is strongly recommended.

Does Video Window Remote work on a second screen?

Yes, Video Window Remote can run on a second computer/monitor if it is a dedicated device. However, running it on the same computer as your main work applications is not recommended, as it may compete for camera, mic, and processing resources.

What stand is recommended for a tablet and why?

A low-cost tablet stand that keeps the device at eye level and powered is recommended. Eye-level positioning ensures colleagues see you correctly (avoiding an unflattering low-angle view) and replicates the natural experience of glancing across at a colleague.

What bandwidth is required for a home user on a tablet?

The same requirements as for office devices apply: minimum 2 Mbps down/up, recommended 5 Mbps down/up. In practice, 720p video uses approximately 2-3 Mbps. A stable Wi-Fi or wired connection is preferred.

Will Video Window Remote work on 4G or mobile networks?

Video Window is designed to work on Wi-Fi, wired Ethernet, built-in LTE/5G modems, and even Starlink. A 4G or 5G connection can be used where broadband is not available, provided it delivers at least 2 Mbps sustained up/down.

How does the sign-in procedure work?

Download the Video Window Remote app (iOS or Android), login via the email address used to create the remote user account, verify using the OTP sent to your email, and you are ready to go. The app then runs persistently during your set working hours.

Is Single Sign-On (SSO) available?

SSO is currently not supported by Video Window, we verify remote user logins via an OTP sent to the users registered email, and rely on the SSO enabled on the email account for additional security.

How can I add users?

Users are added by an administrator via the Admin Portal. Remote user licenses are provisioned through the same management system.

Contact [email protected] to be set up with an administrator account.

How can I delete users?

Users are deactivated or deleted via the Admin Portal by an administrator.

Contact [email protected] to be set up with an administrator account.
