Ulster University Connects Three Campuses with Video Window During Welcome Week

Ulster University once again turned to Video Window this year to power a standout Welcome Week experience, linking its Belfast, Coleraine, and Derry~Londonderry campuses in real time and giving new students an instant sense of connection to the wider university community from day one.

Rather than treating each campus as a separate bubble, Ulster used Video Window’s live video installations to dissolve the physical distance between locations. Students arriving at any of the three campuses could see and interact with peers, staff, and campus teams at the other sites as if they were standing in the same room — turning what is often a disorienting first week into a shared, university-wide event.

Bringing Campuses Together in Real Time

The screens became a natural gathering point throughout Welcome Week. Groups of students clustered around the displays to strike up conversations with counterparts on other campuses, swap tips about their new courses and city, and simply enjoy the novelty of chatting face-to-face with someone dozens of miles away. Campus teams used the same technology to introduce facilities, services, and support resources, making it easier for incoming students to feel oriented no matter which campus they called home.

Games, Energy, and Social Buzz

Beyond simple conversation, the Video Window setup was used to host interactive games and social activities that spanned all three locations at once. This is far from Ulster University’s first use of Video Window — the technology also featured prominently at the university’s open days, where it helped prospective students connect with staff and get real-time answers about courses and campus life.
